CONFEDERATIONS CUP : Germany 3 Australia 2

LEON GORETZKA was the star man as he inspired Germany to victory in their opening Confederations Cup game.

The Schalke man is believed to be on the wish-list of both Bayern Munich and Arsenal , and his performance here will have proved he has the skills in his locker.

The 22-year-old earned his side a penalty and then scored the third goal as Die Mannschaft held off a determined Australia in their Group B clash.

Germany took the lead in just the fifth minute.
Julian Brandt completed a good move by laying into striker Lars Stindl who rifled the ball past Matthew Ryan in the Auusies’ goal.
It was just reward as Germany continued to dominate, and had an early shout for a penalty turned down.

But as so often happens in football, they were punished for a host of missed chances in the 42nd minute.

Tom Rogic fired in a shot that Germany keeper Bernd Leno could only parry straight back to him, and the Celtic man made no mistake second time round.

But just two minutes later the Germans were back in front, and it was from the spot.

Leon Goretzka, rumoured to be on Arsenal’s radar, was hauled down in the area by Massimo Luongo.
Up stepped captain Julian Draxler to fire Die Mannschaft back into the lead.
